Why Are You Doing This? Performance by 16/6 Workshop

الخامس من مارس في ساحة روابط للفنون تم افتتاح العرض الأدائي التجريبي "أنت بتعمل كده ليه؟!" ، من إنتاج ورشة 16\6 ، العرض يقدم مجموعة من الشخصيات الجذابة والغريبة التي تتواجد في عالم معزول، يجمع العرض بين الحس الفكاهي والإثارة

تم الإعداد للعرض وإجراء البروفات في ستوديو الخلاط منذ منتصف شهر يناير، العرض إخراج خالد مصطفي ويقوم ببطولته مجموعة من الممثلين والموسيقيين، الأزياء والديكور كانت متميزة مع هيمنة واضحة للون الأبيض بشكل يترك إنطباع الوجود على القمر أو في الصحراء.

بدون خط سردي متتابع أو واضح ينطلق العرض بنسق يشبه عروض صامويل بيكيت، تتبع المشاهد بعضها البعض يسيطر عليها نمط مسرح الجسد وعناصر من أداء المهرجين، يتدفق انتباه الجمهور من مشهد إلى آخر بإيقاع فريد ومتنوع بين بطء الإنتظار وسرعة دفقات الموسيقى والفكاهة المفاجئة، في أحد المشاهد تلعب الشخصيات بلعبة متحركة على هيئة حمار راقص يقومون بتقليد حركته ويتجمعون حوله في بلاهة، وفي مشهد آخر وعلى النقيض تتدفق لحظات من السلام والسكينة وذلك عندما تقوم الشخصيات بإضاءة الشموع على المسرح المظلم، أو تهدئة الأمور كما لو كان تنويما مغناطيسيا للجمهور من خلال تتابع موسيقي طويل على آلة القانون يؤديه عمرو صلاح.

عرض "أنت بتعمل كده ليه؟!" عرض مثير ومختلف، يفاجئ المشاهد من عدة أوجه، وستقوم ورشة 16\6 بتقديم هذا العرض الأدائي في أكثر من مساحة في القاهرة في الفترة القادمة

Opening on March 5th at Rawabet theater space downtown, « Why are you doing this » is a experimental multimedia theater performance.  Both humorous and unsettling at the same time, the performance featured charismatic and offbeat characters inhabiting a desolate universe. 

The 16/6 Workshop company has been rehearsing their performance at Studio Al Khalat since mid-January.  Directed by Khaled Mostafa, the cast features both actors and musicians.  The costume and decor was artfully made, with a white-dominated palette that gave the impression of being on the moon or in the desert. 

Without a linear narrative, the performance unrolled with the pacing of a Samuel Beckett performance. Scenes followed each other that were primarily led by actions and physical theater, with elements of clowning.  The audiences attention flowed from one scene to the next, with a unique rhythm that alternated between slowness of waiting and bursts of sound and humor. In one scene, the characters play with a kinetic donkey toy that dances around.  They imitate its actions, bobbing around in idiocy.  In other scenes, in contrast, moments of peace and serenity emerge--as the characters light candles on a dark stage, or the audience is hypnotized through long sequences of qanoun playing by Amr Salah.

The performance « Why are you doing this » is an interesting and odd performance, that surprises the viewer at every turn.  They company hopes to take their performance to other venues in Cairo in the next few months.

الجمعة الماضية، قدم أنتوني مارتينيز دي ماسيدو أداء فني متميز في عرض فني متعدد الوسائط بستوديو الخلاط التابع لمساحة فن آرت اللوا، أنتوني فنان 

سويسري حاصل على منحة إقامة فنية بالقاهرة لكتابة روايته الأولى، وكما أوضح أنتوني فإن كتابة الرواية قد تكون مهمة طويلة وثقيلة، لذا فهو يستمتع بتقديم العروض الأدائية الشعرية كوسيلة لجعل كتابته أكثر مواكبة ومباشرة.

عنوان العرض المقدم بودي وهي كلمة قام أنتوني بصياغتها لتعني الشعر المتحرك، وفي عمله المقدم قام بكتابة قصيدة كاملة على لوحة مستخدما أنواع مختلفة من الأحبار والألوان ومواد أخرى، حيث تتراكم الكلمات فوق بعضها في طبقات تسمح للمشاهد بتقدير الموجات التي ينطوي عليها المعنى، وتسمح للقصيدة بأن تبنى بشكل ثابت وذاتي.

محتوى القصيدة يدور حول المهملات والفضلات، وصدمة أنتوني باختبار نمط الحياة في القاهرة، هذه الأحاسيس تظهر في العناصر الأساسية للكيفية التي يقوم بمراكمة الألوان فوق بعضها البعض من خلالها، وتظهر من التراكم البصري الحادث.

لقد كان من دواعي سرورنا استضافة عرض تجريبي وقوي علي هذا النحو في مساحة ستوديو الخلاط.

Last friday, Anthony Martins de Macedo performed a very unique multi-media show at artellewa's Studio alKhalat.  Anthony, from Switzerland, has been in residency in Cairo writing his first novel.  However, as he explains it, writing a novel can be a heavy and long task, so he enjoys doing poetry-performances as a way to make his writing more immediate and direct.

The title PODY is a word that Anthony coined to mean "Dynamic Poetry." In the piece, he writes an entire poem on a board, using a large variety of inks, paints, and more.  The words layer upon each other, allowing the watcher to appreciate the waves of meaning, and to allow the poem to build, in a steady way, literally upon itself.  

The content of the poem was about waste and garbage, and Anthony's shock at experiencing the Cairo lifestyle.  These feelings come through in the formal elements of how he piles the paints on top of each other, and the visual accumulation that occurs.  

!It was a pleasure for Al Khalat to showcase such an experimental and powerful performance in its space

عرض فني يمثل- من خلال الرسم والشعر- النفايات المتراكمة والصدمة التي إنتابتني أثناء اكتشافي لمدينة القاهرة. مزيج من التحرر من الوهم, بعد النظر والوحشية. سيستمر العرض “بودي” فقط لمدة نصف ساعة, وهذا في حد ذاته شيءٌ جيد, وتعبر النتيجة النهائية للعرض عن مشاعري الخاصة: كصرخة مشوهة وغير مسموعة.

ولد “انتوني مارتينز دي ماسيدو” في سويسرا عام 1984 وقد بدأ عمله في البداية كمهندس للميكانيكا, ثم نادل, نجار, مدربا لرياضة التزلج على الجليد ثم طالبا جامعيا, وأخيرا وجد الطريق الذي كان يبحث عنه وهو قص الحكايات التي تتبادر الى ذهنه باستمرار.

كان خلق منصة للكتابة عبر شبكة الانترنت هو الخطوة الأولى فهو يعتبر مكان مثالي للتعبير عن الرؤى الغريبة الأطوار, الجنونية والخاطئة من المنظور السياسي.

حصل على منحة فنية عام 2013 لقضاء ستة شهور للاقامة الفنية بالقاهرة لكتابة أولى رواياته. حيث يسمحا له فني الشعر والأداء بالتعبير 

عن قصص صارخة ومفاجئة بطريقة مختلفة عن طريقة الكتاب التقليدية.

A performance through painting and poetry

A performance through painting and poetry to represent the accumulation of wastes and the shock experienced during my discovery of Cairo. A mixture of disenchantment, of clear- sightedness and brutality. PODY lasts only half an hour and that’s good ; the final result expresses my feelings : a shapeless and inaudible cry.

Anthony Martins de Macedo was born in Switzerland in 1984, At first he worked as a mechanic engineer, then waiter, carpenter, snowboard teacher or university student, he finally found the way that he was looking for : tell all the stories that appear constantly in his mind.

The creation of a writing platform on the web was the first step. It is such a perfect place to express an eccentric vision, demented and always politically incorrect. He obtain a grant in 2013 to spend 6 months in an artistic residency in Cairo and write his first novel.

Poetry and performance allow him to express sharp and sudden stories by a different way than the book.

Once Upon a Time, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

On the 9^th and 10^th of December, the performance of “Once Upon a Time, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” premiered at artellewa’s Studio Al Khalat.  The two nights of the performances were very successful, with a full house  audience each night.  The viewers included a mix of adults as well as children from the neighborhood, who were thrilled to have a theater performance brought to their own street, and excited to participate in the show. 

It's an Iranian story, but many would agree that it could very well be Egyptian, too: a political prisoner, using fables from the past to both escape from reality and comment upon the injustices of the present. And therein lies the success of Once Upon a Time Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, a experimental theatre performance directed by the Iranian-Egyptian artist Sabry Zekry – it is at once particular and universal.

The painting in the performance was created by Hany Hommos, who painted it in artellewa art space.  Mixing traditional Iranian iconography, and his own unique painting style, he created a unique and captivating image that is a central part of the performance.

The two actors, Naglaa Younes and Abd-el-Rahman Nasser, both play complex roles as they each interpret two distinct characters in the story, of mythology, and present-day politics.  In addition to this, Naglaa also plays the violin throughout the story, creating an emotional and evocative atmosphere that underlies the play’s rhythm. 

Al Khalat wishes to thank the cast and team of Once Upon a Time, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow including Sabry Zakry, Ruth Jurado Castillo, Naglaa Younes, and Abd-el-Rahman Nassar, for bringing their performance to artellewa, and the pleasure of working with them.

The performance continues its tour to other art spaces throughout the month of December. 

ان يامكان, أمس, اليوم وغداً" هو إسم العرض المسرحي والذي قدم لأول مرة في ستوديو "الخلاط" بمساحة فن "آرت اللوا" خلال يومي التاسع والعاشر من شهر ديسمبر. كان العرض في كلتا الليلتين ناجحاً جدا وقد ملأ الجمهور المكان بالكامل في كل ليلة, تنوع جمهور الحاضرين حيث شمل أكثر من فئة عمرية فقد كان هناك عدداً من الشباب الصغير وكذلك الأطفال الذين يقطنون في نفس المنطقة , حيث كانوا يتوقون لمشاهدة عرض مسرحي- جاء خصيصا إلى شارعهم - والمشاركة فيه أيضاً.

قصة العرض إيرانية, وقد يتفق معي الكثيرين أنها قد تكون مصرية أيضاً: حيث تحكي عن سجين سياسي يقوم بسرد أساطير الماضي للهروب من الواقع من ناحية وللتعليق على ظلم الحاضر من ناحية اخرى. وهنا يكمن نجاح العرض المسرحي "كان يامكان, أمس, اليوم وغداً", وهو عرض مسرحي تجريبي من إخراج الفنان المصري - الإيراني صبري ذكري فهو يحمل الصبغة الخاصة والعالمية في آن واحد.

قام برسم اللوحة الفنية الخاصة بالعرض الفنان "هاني حمص", حيث قام برسمها في مساحة فن "آرت اللوا", فقام بمزج الأيقونات الشعبية الإيرانية بإسلوبه الفني الخاص لتخرج لوحة آسرة وفريدة لتحتل وسط مكان العرض.

يقوم ممثلا العرض "نجلاء يونس" و "عبد الرحمن ناصر" بأداء أدوار مركبة حيث يقوم كلا منهما بترجمة شخصيتين متمايزتين في الرواية, الأسطورة و الظروف الساسية الحالية, وبالإضافة إلى هذا, تقوم "نجلاء" بالعزف على آلة الكمان خلال حكي القصة لخلق جو عاطفي ومؤثر في النسيج الإيقاعي للعرض المسرحي.

يتوجه ستوديو "الخلاط" بالشكر الى فريق عمل "كان يامكان, أمس, اليوم وغداً" ويتضمن كلً من: "صبري ذكري", "روث خورادو كاستيو", "نجلاء يونس" و "عبد الرحمن ناصر" لأداء العرض في "آرت اللوا" والإستمتاع بالعمل معهم.

Safarni Spain Day!

خلال فعاليات ورشة "سفرني" – وفي اليوم الأسباني لها-  قام الأطفال بالتعرف على موسيقى ورقصة الفلامنكو, الرقائق الاسبانية والرسوم المتحركة, وقد أحب الأطفال التعرف على الثقافة والجغرافيا الاسبانية.

During Safarni Spanish day, the children were introduced to flamenco music and dance, spanish tortillas, and cartoons.  They loved learning about Spanish culture and geography!

سیرين حمودة سجينة سياسية كانت قد قامت بإضراب عن الطعام لمدة شهر بسبب رفض السماح لزوجها وإبنها البالغ من العمر تسعة سنوات " فيريدون " بزيارتها . في خضم معاناتها الروحية وإضطرابها ، تقررت سیرين الكتابة لإبنها عن الأسطورة الشهنامية الـ " زهاق " (الملك الذي كان يأوي أفعتان فوق كتفيه) . غير أنه يتم حرمان سیرين من الوصول إلى قلم وورقة لكتابة الخطاب من قبل حارس السجن " كافيه " ، ومن ثم تقرر بدلاً من ذلك أن تكتب روايتها خفية على منديل بإستخدام الكحل . كانت تتخيل نفسها في أثناء الكتابة في قصر الفاراناق ، أم فيريدون الآخر الموجود في أسطورة الشهنامة ، ومن ثم كانت كلماتها تروى على لسان فاراناق. يقرر في النهاية حارس السجن " كافيه " مأخوذاً بسلوك سیرين أن يسلم خطابها إلى إبنها .                

 صبري ذكري

صبري ذكري هو فنان مصري / إيراني متعدد التخصصات، فهو مخرج أفلام قصيرة ووثائقية، مصور فوتوغرافي، كاتب سيناريو، ممثل بالإضافة إلى كونه مخرجاً مسرحياً. حصل على دبلوما في الإخراج السينمائي والفوتوغرافيا في عام 2006 وحصل على بكالوريوس الإخراج المسرحي في 2011 من قسم المسرح بكلية الفنون جامعة سورة بطهران. إهتمامه الكبير بمسرح الجسد والدراما وحساسيته القوية تجاه الفنون البصرية معاً أدى إلى تطويره لأسلوبه المميز في المسرح والسينوغرافيا.

Sarin Hamoudeh, a political prisoner, has been on hunger strike for a month for being refused visits from her husband and her nine year old son Fereidoon. Gripped by mental turmoil and confusion,
Sarin decides to write to her son about the Shahnama legend of “Zahhak” (the king who harbours two snakes over his shoulders). However, Sarin is denied by the prison guard “Kaveh” access to pen and paper to write the letter and thus she decides instead to secretly write her story on a handkerchief using her eyeliner. Whilst writing, she imagines herself in the place of Faranak, the mother of the other Fereidoon in the Shahnama legend, and her words are therefore spoken on Faranak’s tongue. The prison guard “Kaveh” taken by Sarin’s behavior, decides in the end to deliver the letter to her son.

Sabry Zekry

Sabry Zekry is an Iranian-Egyptian multidisciplinary artist, whose work includes acting, filmmaking, photography, script writing and theater directing. Born in 1978, he received his Diploma in Film-making and Conceptual Photography in 2006 and in 2011 he received his B.A. in Theater Directing. His strong interest in drama and physical theater, combined with a strong sense for the visual, led him to develop his own characteristic blend of theater and scenography.
